Internships aim at supplementing the in-class training with a relevant hands-on experience.
SMA students are warmly encouraged to seek and apply for an internship with companies/research institutes/renowned organizations working with statistical analyses, possibly related to specific fields within the available study plans such as official statistics and quantitative economics.
For students in the Official Statistics track a 9-credit internship is mandatory. The minimum number of hours for 9-credit internships is 225. See an overview of some of the past and current available opportunities here. Note that the mandatory internship will be recognized in your study plan with the exam code AAF1900 ("Internship") or AAF1179 ("Per stages e tirocini presso imprese, enti pubblici o privati, ordini professionale"). In order to have the internship recognized and recorded in the INFOSTUD system the student must 1) book for the exam on INFOSTUD and 2) follow the instructions available here.
For students in the other tracks (Data Analyst/Quantitative Economics) internship is not mandatory. You can have an internship recognized as 3-credit or 6-credit unit depending on the amount of hours: the minimum number of hours for 6-credit internships is 150 and the minimum number of hours for 3-credit internships is 75. Note that, in order to have the internship recognized, students should include in their study plan either the 3-credit unit labelled as AAF1965 or AAF1149 ("Altre conoscenze utili per l'inserimento nel mondo del lavoro"/ "Other training activities") or 6-credit unit labelled as AAF1809 or AAF1152 ("Altre conoscenze utili per l'inserimento nel mondo del lavoro" / "Other training activities").
